Roku Control (IP vs IR)

Roku devices can be controlled via IP (Internet Protocol) or IR (Infrared) control. JubileeTV primarily uses IP control to connect with Roku, which is done by pairing with Roku's IP address during the setup process. This connection allows for a more integrated experience with Roku, including the ability to create JubileeTV Favorites that will link directly to apps like Netflix or Hulu with a single click or voice command. This type of control is only available with Roku streaming players (not Apple TV or Amazon FireTV sticks) and depends on the network's compatibility with device-to-device communication.

If the network restricts IP control, JubileeTV can still manage most Roku devices using IR control. This method, however, means you’ll only be able to use the JubileeTV Voice Remote for basic navigation commands (up, down, left, right, OK/Select, back, and Home). It does not support direct app linking, so your loved one will need to switch to Roku and navigate to the app they want.

It's important to note that Roku streaming sticks do not have IR control capabilities. If IP control is not an option because of network restrictions, controlling a Roku stick with JubileeTV won't be possible. For this reason, we often recommend using Roku Express, which supports IR control and generally offers better performance than Roku sticks.
